If you haven’t yet read Where the Crawdads Sing, you should definitely add it to your fiction list.
This coming-of-age story/murder mystery follows Kaya Clark (aka the “Marsh Girl”) who, at just ten years old, is abandoned by her family and left to live alone in a shack in the isolated marsh country of North Carolina. Kaya learns to live off the land and develops a deep connection to her environment. Her quiet existence is threatened when she becomes the primary suspect in the murder of Chase Andrews, a man from the neighboring town who once claimed to love her.
