When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi
Book Review
”I don’t believe in the wisdom of children, nor in the wisdom of the old. There is a moment, a cusp, when the sum of gathered experience is worn down by the details of the living. We are never so wise as when we live in the moment.”
This Pulitzer Prize nominated biography is so beautiful, heartbreaking and moving. If you haven’t yet read it, I cannot recommend it enough! Written by Paul Kalanithi, the book follows the 35-year-old’s journey from neurosurgeon to patient as he fights and loses his battle against lung cancer. Kalanithi passed away while writing the book, so the ending was completed by his wife.
In just 208 pages, this quick and poetic read will leave you shook. In the face of certain death, Kalanithi raises questions that will make you contemplate ”what makes a virtuous and meaningful life”.
