In Five Years by Rebecca Serle

Book Review

⁣Have you read In Five Years?? This book was not at ALL what I expected. I picked it up thinking it would be a light and breezy read and it turned out to be QUITE the opposite. This book is a major tear-jerker. If you need a good cry or love a story about unconditional friendship, this book is for you.

⁣The mildly-fantastical storyline begins with Dannie, an extremely driven and meticulous New Yorker, nailing an important job interview and accepting a marriage proposal from her perfect boyfriend. The night of her engagement, she falls asleep in a haze of wine and merriment and is somehow catapulted exactly five years into the future. She awakes in an apartment she doesn’t recognize next to a man she’s never met. After living one short hour in the future, Dannie awakens back into the present. Was this strange premonition a dream or reality? She’ll spend the next five years figuring it out.

⁣While this book was not the rom-com I was expecting (AT ALL), it does showcase a different kind of love. The friendship between Dannie and her free-spirited and whimsical best-friend, Bella, is truly touching and serves as a reminder that soulmates don’t always come in the form of a romantic partner.⁣

I enjoyed this one, but something kept me from loving it. Perhaps the overall heavy tone was a bit much for me. I also felt like the ending was a bit lacking.

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5

⁣If you’ve read this one, I’d love to know what you thought!
