February 2022 Wrap Up

✨FEBRUARY WRAP UP✨

A short month filled with lots of good books! Here’s a quick recap of the 7 fiction novels I read in February…

✨Fahrenheit 451: A classic sci-fi novel about a society in which firefighters start fires (to burn books) rather than contain them. Very 1984-esque.

✨The Nickel Boys: A stunning novel that confronts race, inequality and trauma at a juvenile penitentiary/reform school for boys. This book won Colson Whitehead his second Pulitzer Prize… making him just one of four authors in history to have won the prestigious award twice.

✨All Her Little Secrets: A thriller novel about a successful Black attorney who finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation after her boss is found dead in his office. As she attempts to uncover what really happened, she finds that things at her workplace are not as they seem.

✨How High We Go In The Dark: A bizarre and at times beautiful dystopian novel that details the stories of those who have survived a plague of apocalyptic proportions. Very sci-fi. Kind of all over the place, but beautiful storytelling and fascinating ideas.

✨Black Cake: When their mother passes away, two siblings arrive at her attorney’s office to hear her last will and testament… what follows is a deep dive into their mother’s past, which is full of secrets, reinvention, trauma and strength. The title of the book is an homage of the mother’s Caribbean heritage and the special role the delicacy played in her and her family’s life.

✨The Violin Conspiracy: A character-driven mystery about a world-renowned classical violinist whose priceless violin is stolen. While the mystery serves as the framework for the novel, the deep dive into the protagonist’s past is the real treat, as we watch a young Black boy struggle to step into his power and ultimately rise to great success despite having all the odds stacked against him.
❤️❤️❤️My favorite of the month.

✨The Club: A whodunit murder mystery set on a lavish private island where an exclusive club is celebrating its opening weekend. Packed with celebrities, glitz and glamour, the weekend almost goes perfectly… until someone turns up dead.

Which of these have you read??
