Women’s History Month
Book Recommendations
In honor of Women’s History Month, I’m sharing a few of my favorite nonfiction books that celebrate female empowerment 🥳.
Each of these books offer women valuable knowledge and actionable steps to better themselves and/or their communities. Because “when you lift up women, you lift up humanity.”
✨The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance offers a unique look into the lives of various women at the top of their game and explores how confidence has aided in their success. Through anecdotes and research, the book details the importance of confidence (and how to achieve it) in the never-ending quest for gender equality.
✨This is Your Brain on Birth Control: The Surprising Science of Women, Hormones and the Law of Unintended Consequences. Through this revelatory book, author Sarah E. Hill, PhD explains how hormonal birth control impacts FAR more than a woman’s ability to conceive. In fact, it affects just about everything.
✨Wordslut: A Feminist Guide to Taking Back the English Language. In this linguistic guide, the badass Amanda Montell reveals how Modern-day English enforces the patriarchy and gender stereotypes as well as how we can use language to reclaim our power.
✨Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women That A Movement Left Behind dives into the intersectionality of feminism and racism/classism and explains how the feminist movement should seek to ensure the survival of many rather than simply increase the privilege of few.
✨The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Woman Can Change the World. In this memoir/feminist manifesto, philanthropist Melinda French Gates uses her platform to highlight the most pressing issues facing women around the world.
✨Quit Like A Woman details author Holly Whitaker’s journey to recovery and explains why our reliance on drinking is very much a product of the “imperialist white-supremacist capitalist patriarchy.”
