The Paris Hours by Alex George
Book Review
I started and finished this historical fiction book last weekend. At just over 250 pages, this is a short and captivating read that will make you feel as if you’ve travelled back in time to Paris in the 1920s.
The Paris Hours follows four very different characters, each with an intriguing backstory, over the course of one day in post-WW1 Paris. While the four characters do not know each other, their fates intertwine at the end of the book when they all end up at the same place. As each character’s story unravels, we come across various well-known figures - like Ernest Hemingway, Gertrude Stein and Josephine Baker - who play supporting roles in the book and help to determine the fate of our four lead characters.
If you’re looking for an escapism read that will transport you to the City of Light, look no further. While I found myself a bit confused early on in the book due to the quick introduction of many different characters, I ended up loving this one. Each of the characters’ stories is filled with drama, hardship, hope and passion. If you’re a fan of historical fiction or just love a story set in Paris, this one is for you.
