The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

Book Review

This was definitely a bookstagram-made-me-do-it read. After seeing so many glowing reviews of this book (published earlier this month), naturally I had to pick it up. It did not disappoint!⁣

⁣This unique and beautifully written story follows the extremely long life of Adeline (Addie) LaRue, who makes a deal with “the dark” to live forever. However, the one caveat is that everyone she meets forgets her… leading both Addie and the reader to question if an unremembered life is worth living.

⁣The story begins in the 1700s and spans across three hundred years. The timeline of the book alternates back and forth between present day (2014) and Addie’s past leading up to 2014. The story takes a turn when Addie encounters someone who utters the three words she has waited three hundred years to hear… “I remember you.”⁣

⁣While this is certainly a fantasy book, it strangely reminded me of A Gentleman in Moscow. While the two storylines are starkly different, the writing and pace of the two books felt quite similar to me. Both books focus on individuals with unusual lives. Lives that are at times uneventful, but nevertheless remarkable and intriguing due to their uniqueness. I loved reading about Addie’s day-to-day life across so many different time periods and learning all the various nuances of her curse (for example, she cannot write, speak about her curse or take a photograph… essentially ensuring she will be forgotten).

⁣Whether or not you typically read fantasy (I generally don’t), I highly recommend this one!

⁣⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5 stars⁣

⁣If you could live forever, would you want to??
