Fake by Erica Katz

✨BOOK REVIEW✨

What a fun book!

Shoutout to Harper Books for sending me a gifted copy of Erica Katz’s sophomore novel, Fake. I flew through this one. If you enjoy mysteries, thrillers, art and/or rich-people-behaving-badly stories, this one’s for you!

Quick Synopsis: Emma Cann is an artist who specializes in duplicating famous works of art, which are often (legally) commissioned and displayed by those who own and seek to protect the priceless originals. When a Russian billionaire takes a liking to her work, he makes her an offer she can’t refuse and suddenly she is working at a high-end NYC art gallery, attending exclusive art auctions and lavish parties, flying on private jets and living in the apartment of her dreams. However, behind Emma’s new opulent life is a scheme that threatens to jeopardize everything.

My thoughts: This book would make a perfect vacation read with its glitz, glamour, mystery and a bit of romance. I really enjoyed seeing inside the world of high-end art and watching the protagonist discover that more often than not, appearances are deceiving. While I enjoyed Emma as a leading lady, it was sometimes difficult to believe her naiveté in certain situations. Nevertheless, I was rooting for her from beginning to end and she certainly fits the description of a strong female protagonist. I also loved seeing her female friendships develop throughout the book.

If you’re in a reading slump and need a fast and fun read, I highly recommend this one! Also, if you read and enjoyed the author’s first book, The Boys Club, I’m certain you’ll love this one. While I liked The Boys Club, Fake is without question my favorite of the two.
